Back, Waist, and Flank Liposuction
Shapes the midsection by reducing localized fat and accentuating the waist. This area is key in body contouring, especially for women.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Before Surgery
Which procedure is best for me?
At COLSURGERIES, we evaluate your body, age, medical history, and aesthetic goals to recommend a personalized plan. Whether you want one or multiple procedures, our aim is to achieve a harmonious, natural, and safe result.
How long before the trip should I be in the country where I will undergo surgery, and why?
We recommend arriving at least 2–3 days in advance to complete preoperative consultations, tests, and preparations smoothly.
What should I have prepared for my postoperative stay?
Comfortable clothing, documents, prescribed medications, and personal items to facilitate your rest and care.
Can I combine multiple procedures in a single surgery?
Yes, it is common to combine liposuction with abdominoplasty or arm lifting, provided the surgeon deems it safe and beneficial for your case.
Will the surgeon help me choose the most suitable procedure according to my goals?
Yes. At COLSURGERIES, we analyze your body structure to recommend the most suitable treatment. Our goal is to achieve sculpting that leaves you satisfied, respecting your body type and always aiming for harmony and proportion.
What medical tests should I undergo before the procedure?
This depends on the type of procedure and your medical history. In most cases, blood tests, cardiovascular evaluation, and medical clearance for relevant history are required. All of this is determined during your initial assessment.
During Surgery
How long does the procedure take?
This varies depending on the procedure:
- Traditional Liposuction or Lipo-sculpture: 1.5 to 3 hours
- HD / 4D Liposuction: 2.5 to 4 hours (due to its level of detail)
- Abdominoplasty: 2 to 4 hours
- Back + Waist + Flank Liposuction: 1 to 2 hours (if performed alone)
- Arm or Thigh Liposuction: 1 to 1.5 hours per area
What type of anesthesia is used?
It depends on the procedure and the areas being treated. Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used. The surgeon will determine the most appropriate option for you.
Are drains placed, and do they cause pain?
It depends on the type of procedure. In surgeries such as abdominoplasty, post-bariatric surgery, or extensive liposuctions, drains are placed to prevent fluid accumulation. In more localized procedures, such as arm, thigh, or HD liposuction, they may not be necessary.
When used, they cause mild discomfort, but removal is quick and well tolerated. The surgeon will decide based on your case and surgical plan.
Postoperative Care and Recovery
When can I return to the gym?
In general, it is recommended to resume light physical activities, such as walking, 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. For more intense exercises, like weight training or vigorous cardio, it is advised to wait 4 to 6 weeks, always under the surgeon’s supervision and approval.
It is essential to follow your surgeon’s specific instructions, as each case is unique and may require adjustments to recovery times.
What precautions should I take during recovery?
You must strictly follow medical instructions. The most important include:
• Wear compression garments as long as indicated
• Avoid physical exertion, trauma, or sleeping face down
• Do not expose scars directly to the sun
• Maintain a balanced diet and proper hydration
• Do not smoke or consume alcohol, as this may affect healing
Additionally, attending post-operative check-ups on time is key to a safe and complication-free recovery.
Should I wear any garment or bandage after the procedure?
Yes. In most cases, you should wear a compression garment specifically designed for body surgery.
This garment helps reduce inflammation, improve tissue adaptation, and enhance aesthetic results.
It should be worn for at least 4 to 6 weeks, as directed by your surgeon. Some procedures also use foam, boards, or complementary dressings.
When will I see the final results?
You will notice changes in the first few weeks, but final results are seen between 3 and 6 months, once inflammation has fully subsided and tissues have settled.
This timing may vary depending on the type of procedure, your metabolism, and adherence to the post-operative plan.
What is the recovery process like?
It depends on the procedure. Generally, relative rest is recommended during the first few days, along with wearing compression garments and avoiding intense physical exertion for at least 4 weeks.
When can I resume my daily activities?
Light activities can be resumed after 1 to 2 weeks. Intense physical exercise should be postponed until you receive medical clearance, usually after 4 to 6 weeks.
Will there be visible scars, and where will they be located?
Yes, but they are placed strategically to be as inconspicuous as possible. In procedures such as abdominoplasty or post-bariatric surgery, scars are usually hidden under underwear or natural body folds.
In liposuction, incisions are small (3 to 5 mm) and placed in discreet areas such as folds, the groin, or lower back.
With proper care, they tend to fade over time.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, provided you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Although the removed fat does not return, weight gain can affect the results.
Medical Tourism and Return
What happens if a complication occurs after returning to my country?
You will have immediate access to our medical team via video call to assess your case. If in-person care is required, we will assist you with:
- Reliable medical referrals in your home country
- Direct coordination with a local doctor (if you authorize it)
- Personalized follow-up in your language
- Assisted return options to Colombia if necessary, with logistical support and special benefits
At COLSURGERIES, we ensure you feel safe and supported at all times, no matter where you are.
How many days should I stay in Colombia after the treatment?
We recommend a minimum stay of 10 to 15 days, depending on the procedure. This allows for dressing changes, monitoring your progress, and receiving medical clearance with peace of mind.
When will I be able to return to my country?
You can return once the surgeon confirms that your initial recovery is satisfactory. In most cases, this occurs between 12 and 15 days post-surgery, provided there are no complications.
Is accommodation and transportation included in the package?
Yes. We offer comprehensive packages that include accommodation in quality establishments, clinical transfers, and personalized care throughout your stay in Medellín.
Will I have medical support throughout my entire stay?
Yes. From day one, you will have the support of our medical team.
We provide post-operative visits, continuous follow-up, and a direct channel to address any concerns promptly.
Follow-up and Monitoring
How soon is it advisable to have a follow-up?
Post-operative check-ups are essential in body procedures.
Check-ups are scheduled at 7, 15, and 30 days post-surgery, followed by periodic evaluations every 3 months during the first year.
This allows monitoring of healing, aesthetic outcomes, and complication prevention.
Is it necessary to have the follow-up in person, or can it be done via video call?
If you are in Medellín, the initial check-up must be in person.
If you have already returned to your country, follow-up can be conducted via video call, as long as the surgeon authorizes it and your recovery is progressing correctly.
At COLSURGERIES, we prioritize your safety and well-being, wherever you are.
What happens if I want to have a second surgery later on?
It is entirely possible. Your surgeon will assess your recovery and determine when it is safe to undergo a new procedure, whether complementary or corrective. The interval between surgeries depends on the type of previous intervention and your individual progress.
