FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Before Surgery
What is the Best Treatment for My Skin Type?
At COLSURGERIES, we analyze your face, age, anatomy, and aesthetic goals to recommend a personalized surgical plan. Our goal is to achieve facial harmony without altering your identity.
Do I Need Preoperative Medical Tests?
Yes. Depending on your medical history and the type of surgery, you may need blood tests, cardiovascular evaluation, or diagnostic imaging. All of this is determined during your initial assessment.
Can I Combine Multiple Procedures in a Single Surgery?
Yes, procedures such as blepharoplasty + rhinoplasty or submental liposuction + mentoplasty are often combined. The surgeon will evaluate your case and determine if it is safe to do so.
What Should I Bring for My Recovery?
Comfortable clothing, prescribed medications, sunscreen, hygiene items, and your medical documents. At COLSURGERIES, we provide a complete list prior to your surgery.
Will the Surgeon Help Me Choose the Ideal Procedure for My Face?
Of course. Our team performs a detailed facial assessment to determine which procedure best harmonizes with your features while always respecting your essence.
During Surgery
How long does the procedure take?
Timing varies by procedure (times listed here are approximate; each case is different and should be evaluated by your assigned physician):
- Rhinoplasty: 2 to 3 hours
- Blepharoplasty: 1 to 2 hours
- Facelift: 3 to 5 hours
- Mentoplasty: 1 to 2 hours
- Otoplasty: 1 to 2 hours
- Buccal Fat Removal: 30 to 60 minutes
- Submental Liposuction: 30 to 60 minutes
What type of anesthesia is used?
It depends on the procedure. Some are performed with local anesthesia and sedation (such as buccal fat removal), while others require general anesthesia (such as a facelift or rhinoplasty).
Are drains placed, and do they cause pain?
In surgeries such as a facelift or submental liposuction, drains are placed to prevent fluid accumulation. They may cause mild discomfort but are easily removed in the following days.
Will there be visible scars?
The incisions are placed in natural folds or discreet areas (such as behind the ears or inside the nose). With proper healing and care, they tend to become imperceptible.
Postoperative Care and Recovery
When can I resume my daily activities?
It depends on the procedure, but generally relative rest is recommended for 7 to 14 days. Light activities can be resumed after the first week, depending on medical progress.
What precautions should I take during recovery?
• Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated
• Avoid sun exposure
• Do not smoke or consume alcohol
• Follow medical recommendations carefully and attend follow-up appointments
Should I use bandages?
In some procedures, such as mentoplasty or submental liposuction, compression bands are recommended. In others, dressings or temporary bandages are used during the first few days.
When will I see the final results?
• Rhinoplasty: visible results from week 2, with full definition between 6 and 12 months.
• Blepharoplasty: noticeable improvement from 10 days, final results between 2 and 3 months.
• Facelift: visible changes from 3-4 weeks, full settling at 3-6 months.
• Submental liposuction: progressive reduction of swelling in 4 to 6 weeks, final results in 2 to 3 months.
• Buccal fat removal: gradual facial slimming, visible in 3 to 6 weeks.
• Mentoplasty: facial profile improvement from the first weeks, final results at 2-4 months.
• Otoplasty: immediate results, with final shape and position in 4 to 6 weeks.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, although natural aging will continue. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps preserve results for longer.
Medical Tourism and Return
What happens if a complication occurs after returning to my country?
You will have immediate access to our medical team via video call. If in-person care is required:
• We will refer you to reliable specialists in your country
• We coordinate with a local physician if you authorize it
• We can organize your return to Colombia if necessary, with logistical support
How many days should I stay in Colombia?
We recommend staying between 10 and 15 days, depending on the surgery. This allows for initial check-ups, suture removal if applicable, and ensures your recovery is progressing well before traveling.
Are lodging and transfers included?
Yes. Our comprehensive packages include accommodation at certified facilities, transfers, and personalized care throughout your stay.
Will I have medical support during my stay?
Of course. You will have in-person medical follow-up in Medellín, scheduled check-ups, and a permanent contact channel to answer any questions.
Follow-up and Monitoring
When should I have the first follow-up?
Follow-ups are scheduled at 7, 15, and 30 days, depending on your surgery. Then quarterly check-ups are done during the first year to monitor progress and results.
Do follow-ups need to be in person?
During your stay in Colombia, yes. Once in your country, follow-ups can be done via video call if the surgeon deems it safe.
Can I have another surgery later on?
Yes. If you want another complementary or touch-up procedure, our team will evaluate the appropriate waiting time, respecting your recovery and overall health.
